About the Major

The Mount’s biochemistry degree is designed to uniquely equip you with the scientific perspective necessary to create solutions to the complex problems facing humanity.

In addition to biochemistry courses, the program will include studies in genetics, molecular and cellular biology. You’ll also learn about general, organic, analytical and physical chemistry. Additionally, physics, calculus and a senior seminar will round out your course work.

Mount St. Mary’s faculty maintain active, student-centered research programs where you’ll have the opportunity to gain real-world research experience with one-on-one interaction and mentoring from your faculty advisor. From student-authored publications and presentations at national conferences to acceptance into top medical schools and doctoral programs, Mount biochemistry students have a history of success.

The Mount’s biochemistry program will provide you with the education and experience necessary to pursue diverse career pathways such as a soil and plant scientist developing more sustainable biofuels, a chemical engineer for a technology company, or a geneticist at the National Institutes of Health in nearby Bethesda, Maryland.
